Shri Mayureshwar Mandir is a sacred Hindu temple also known as Shri Moreshwar Mandir dedicated to Lord Ganesh (the elephant-headed god of wisdom), located in Morgaon, 80 km far from Pune, Maharastra, India.
Mayureshwar Temple is the beginning and ending spot of a pilgrimage of eight revered Ganesha temples called “Ashtavinayaka”.
Morgaon is the first centre of worship of the “Ganapatya creed (sect)” which considers Ganesha as the Supreme Lord. A small legend is related with this temple that the demon Sindhu was killed by Ganesha. It is still unknown about the exact date of building of the temple. Though the Ganapatya saint Morya Gosavi is known to be linked with it.
Moreshwar Mandir expanded due to the support of the Peshwa rulers and descendants of Morya Gosavi.
